antique pine five drawer wellington chest 1860

Item Ref

Delighted to have found this and to be able to offer it in this outstanding condition.
Surely a treasured piece of furniture, seeing the care it has received in it's life time.
The chest is made from pitch pine, the mellow reddish kind and has been built by a master joiner.
All details on this chest are exquisite, mouldings, columns, joints, break front detail, dove tails, brass ware, lock and keep. The original tiny key is also still present!
The integrated turned handles are a masterpiece, such nicely executed turnings, the timber used is Rosewood. Drawer handle no 4 has a small piece missing., see photo 12.
The locking bar on the right hand side, which secures the drawers when the chest needs moving, is held by heavy brass hinges, a catch and lock in brass.
It locks perfectly, a true Wellington chest, the Duke would have been proud of.
But the owner of this one only worked for 5 days instead of the standard 7 .....
Needless to say that there are signs of use, although minimal, which gives this piece a very good authentic antique look.
