antique decorated pine dowry chest in original paint 1850

Item Ref

A very ancient pine dowry chest, found in beautifully worn original pale paint, Northern Europe.
Built in customary way, heavily moulded top with iron strap hinges, pale bleached pine.
Chunky dove tailed construction, standing on a flat plinth and tapered feet.
The top has lost most of it's paint and has worn down to a tactile pale pine.
Two rectangles on the front of the box, depicting georgous time faded florals on a most appealling pale terracotta background.
Hues of dragon blood and dark blue still clinging to the pale faded timber. The sides are plain terracotta.
An ancient iron escutcheon hides the large keyhole.
Inside the candle box is missing, as is the original lock. The inside of the chest is clean, but shows signs of wear and lightly scattered old worm holes, treated as always and obsolete.
A well used decorative pine chest, coffee table or storage box, or both....condition refected in the price.
1115mm wide
555mm deep
440mm high
