Found in nearly undisturbed condition, a rarety these days.
A fine painted cupboard or Scottish dresser dating from the mid to late 19th century.
Styled in Scottish fashion, a two cupboard base with three drawers above.
A working top, flanked by four spice drawers and a shelf above.
Elaborate sides and top, very pleasing to the eye.
The original paint adds another dimension. the ancient art of scumbling and marbling executed here with masterful skill. Oak, mahogany, maple and a very lovely faux marble on the worktop, floral urn and edge stencilling, all pulled together to enhance the style of this unusual piece.
Brass handles and catches all present and working.
There is one small brass drop missing from the handle on the top left hand spice drawer, we are working on finding a matching replacement.
The dresser is also in very good condition all around, no repairs, no worm, no alterations of any kind.
Some small scuffs to the very bottom, on the sides, a little denting and very slight wear, the paint of course aged and with lovely patina.
A grand piece of Scottish country pine, very suitable for a cottage setting, rustic interior or as a period TV prop.
1310mm wide
1425mm high
535mm deep
960mm worktop height
